Default Vampiric Touch >> 55hp iNecro :(

I was messing with my 55hp iNecro trying to farm some Mossy Mandibles in order to get a +1 Death Magic offhand from the collector in Maguma Stade. Things were going well until one of the scarabs decided to Vamp Touch me. *poof* dead instantly. I thought I must have let Protective Spirit drop so I re-zoned and tried again. Same results. So I looked at the description of Protective Spirit:

For 5-19 seconds, target ally cannot lose more than 10% health due to damage from a single attack or spell.

Then I looked up Vampiric Touch:

Touch target foe to steal up to 29-64 health.

Vampiric Touch is neither a spell or an attack but a touch skill so it seems to go right through Protective Spirit.

I guess this is bad for me when it comes to farming jungle scarabs with my iNecro, but it's not bad news in terms of a skill that's good to bring to RA. Especially when you encounter an annoying iMonk.

Oh well, just thought I'd share.

You are correct, but not for the right reason....

Life Stealing is not considered 'damage', so Prot Spirit/Bond don't work against them at all.

This means that Vampiric Gaze, Vampiric Touch, Shadow Strike, Mark of Subversion and Soul Leach can ALL instagib any 55 character.

Unholy Feast and Feast of Corruption also penetrate PS/PB but are not strong enough to kill in one hit.

The point you make about VT being a skill is important however. Because VT will even penetrate SpellBreaker/ObsidianFlesh.

Thanks for your reply.

Unholy Feast got a buff: it now steals 69 life from 4 targets in the area (same size area as a Well) @ L16

At L18 using Awaken the Blood, it steals 76 damage from 5 targets - enough to slay five 55 toons in one go!

Yes, Vampiric Touch is THAT good but it costs 15E and it needs melee range to work. Not a great skill for any other classes besides Ranger with high Expertise.

I still prefer VG it steals the sam as UF but has a 5 sec rechargs to UF 20 sec recharge, I can cast VG four times get 4 health boosts when I need it to UF 4 right at the time when I may not.

I still feel tha VG is better.

Vampiric Gaze is a permanent fixture on my bar pretty much too Unholy Feast lives quite happily next to it though and it's great if you get mobbed and need a big heal There's that new factions spell, Jaundiced Gaze which has me interested too - similar-ish to VG but on a 2s recast. There's also another copy of Shadow Strike (Lifebane Strike iirc), so there's a ton of bloodspike options appearing

VG is invaluable as a finisher and emergency heal. If you have arc echo you can turn VG into a nice little frag spammer in a pinch.

Bet you couldnt make it past the Ele stage in Dragons Lair either.

Crytal Wave-Give 70+ dmg. Crystal Wave ignores any Magical or Physical protection.
Also since it is AoE, it can go through a 55 Monk with Spell Breaker.

Crystal Wave does get reduced by Protective Spirit. It mearly bypasses armour in the same way as say... Putrid Explosion or Shatter Hex.

Hah, I remember doing random arena and running into a 55 monk, i hit him with vamp gaze and he falls over dead, both teams stop and laugh as he goes "wtf you cheater"

Ahhh, Necros are so fun that I can almost forget my personal hatred of 55 builds/arrogant monks

heh silly go red engine nerfed my 5 letter phrase for monks, started with co and ends with y, guess that makes sense though.

Then why does the description say this:
"Foes near you are struck for 10-82 damage, but are cured of any negative Conditions. This Spell ignores armor and magic resistance"

It's a spell. Read the description for PS again. Ignoring armor means it does the same damage to a 60 AL char as to a 80 AL char.
